JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Operations Supervisor the Delivery Driver’s primary responsibility is operating a 5-ton truck, transporting home furnishings and appliances to customers’ homes, providing installation and hook up services with the removal of exchanges or recycled products. In addition, you will be expected to be a Custom Delivery ambassador of white glove service and a leader in the in-home delivery service. It is essential that the Delivery Service Specialist create a positive customer experience by understanding and meeting the customers’ needs. Success in this role will be determined by customer satisfaction through on time, accurate deliveries and providing a positive customer interaction each and every time you interface with the customer.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operating a 5-ton commercial vehicle (Class D) on predetermined route using a customized home delivery application to provide accurate on time delivery to multiple retail locations. Assigned delivery routes will vary from time to time.
Strict adherence to completion of all documentation according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) including; appliance and home furnishing installation, manifests, obtaining signatures, safe operations, etc.
At a Metro to Home or Custom Delivery hub load product into the 5-ton for delivery in a manner that prevents damage to the product.
Adhere to Custom Delivery’s safe motor vehicle driving methods, as well as, strict adherence to all Provincial motor vehicle laws.
Maintain a clean delivery truck, perform daily pre/post shift safety inspections, and advise the Supervisor of any concerns or service recommendations.
Follow all SOPs regarding the safeguarding of Custom Delivery and its Customers property against theft.
Work with Customer Service and the Logistics Coordinator to return damaged or exchange product not accepted at the delivery location, and transport the product back to the hub, according to SOP.
Work with Customer Service and the Logistics Coordinator to accommodate rush deliveries and/or changes to the scheduled delivery route and support the team with specialized white glove delivery installations.
Establish a positive relationship with the Logistics Coordinator by understanding client expectations, meeting daily commitments, and addressing or referring any service concerns for priority resolution.
Adhere to established uniform requirements, maintain a professional image and handle all client interactions in a courteous, customer-oriented manner.
Demonstrate and promote Metro’s Our Way values on a daily basis.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of secondary school is preferred or equivalent experience.
Valid “D” or “Class 3” driver license with a clean driver abstract.
Experience as a delivery driver in a time-sensitive, customer interfacing environment preferred.
Experience preforming home delivery services, including appliance and home furnishing installation.
Must agree to a criminal background check and credit check.
Driver must have appropriate licensing to operate a 5-ton truck
Must speak English
Must have valid Class 4 or 5 license and clean abstract (latest)
Must have minimum one year experience driving 5 ton trucks
Must be able to pass a criminal record check
Must provide references for Driving
6 months of home delivery/appliance delivery/white glove/driving experience
A great attitude
Be physically fit and able to lift over 100 lbs. (with help) comfortably and consistently
Available to work on Saturdays
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Proven ability to operate a motor vehicle within a defined geographical area (including both urban and non-urban areas) in all whether conditions.
Strong orientation to safety, with a demonstrated commitment to the principles of defensive driving.
Ability to two-person lift of 250-300 lbs numerous times throughout the day.
Ability to represent a professional, knowledgeable, and friendly customer service approach when dealing with customers or retail clients.
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal team members.
Proven communication skills both verbal and written. Bilingual is an asset.
Comfortable with being directly involved in a fast-paced environment and able to work under stressful conditions.
Thorough knowledge and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Ability to make sound decisions independently and know when to reach out for assistance from your supervisor.
Well organized and capable of working with minimal supervision.
Must be flexible and willing to work additional hours when required.
